Welcome to my practice

Thank you for your interest in my psychotherapy practice. I am a Clinical Psychologist who works with adults, children, adolescents and couples with a broad range of needs. I specialize in couples in distress, and individuals with depression or anxiety. I also specialize in a variety of child and adolescent issues as well as family and parenting issues.

People seek therapy for many reasons. Often people seek help when life situations become overwhelming or when a problem negatively impacts their relationships or work. Some seek support during unexpected changes in their lives, while others are interested in self-exploration and personal growth.

As a licensed Psychologist I use an integrative approach and work collaboratively to help you achieve your goals. My offices are located in Garden City and Hewlett, NY. Call me at (516) 256-9250 and we can arrange a consultation during which we can discuss how I can best help you. The call is confidential.

Individual Therapy for Adults

Are you:

Having difficulty with personal relationships?
Feeling sad, hopeless, stuck or in a rut?
Not where you’d like to be in your career?
Feeling anxious, stressed or out of control?
Being held back by painful childhood experiences?
Experiencing low self esteem or self image?
Experiencing loss or grief?
Experiencing a change in life such as marriage, divorce, graduation, career change, pregnancy, parenthood, retirement, etc?

Chronic depression or anxiety can make all aspects of life more difficult. Your needs and circumstances an unique. Starting with the intake, I work to engage you as a partner in the therapy. As a clinical psychologist, I bring an understanding of interpersonal dynamics, human behavior, developmental issues, and mental health issues that provide me with the tools to help you toward your goals. Therapy is adapted to your personal needs, so I encourage you to ask questions and discuss your thoughts about our approach.

Couples  Therapy

Are you and your partner:

Having trouble communicating?
Looking to get closer but growing apart?
Considering parenthood?
New parents looking for parenting skills?

Many couples I have seen either feel disconnected from each other or are unable to discuss meaningful topics without escalating into painful conflicts. I help couples learn to understand the negative patterns that keep them stuck and learn to engage with each other in a healthier less destructive way.

Therapy for Children and Adolescents

Does your child or adolescent:

struggle with anxiety or depression?
struggle with an Attention Deficit (ADHD)?
struggle with personal or interpersonal problems?
have low self-esteem?
worry excessively?
seem constantly irritable?
make poor choices?

I have worked extensively with school and college age children and adolescents with these and other issues over the years. Most have found me approachable and easy to talk to. I establish a safe environment where they can explore their difficulties. I also teach them coping skills and engage the family to help support change whenever appropriate. My experiences as a school psychologist and college professor allow me to better assist your son or daughter with the the academic and social situations they have to negotiate.

My Approach

What kind of therapy do I practice?

I work using a combination of approaches aimed at: developing insight, enhancing problem solving skills, changing habits and learning to accept oneself. I draw from my training in Internal Family Systems, Psychoanalytic therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy as well as Cognitive Therapy. Each approach has its place: Insight to help you understand why you feel, act and think the way you do. Support during times of grief, trauma and other emotional stress. Problem solving to find effective ways to address the stressors that contribute to your distress. Changing problematic behaviors and habits that are no longer effective. We collaborate to identify your goals and establish how best to reach those goals. You are always a partner in the process. I draw upon my training and experience to provide a safe and supportive environment to help you meet your needs.

Looking for a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist?

Often, medical doctors will recommend their patients to seek out a Cognitive Behavioral therapist because this approach has been the most widely studied and has good empirical support.  I integrate cognitive behavioral techniques throughout the therapy. In addition to my cognitive behavioral training I have specialized training in psychodynamic, internal family systems and emotionally focused therapy for couples. As a result, I use an integrative approach that draws upon the strength of each model to best suit your needs.
